Common Questions About Care
How will I know if Hollymount is right for my loved one?
We understand that choosing the right care home is an important and often emotional decision. At Hollymount, we encourage families to visit, meet our team, and experience the warm, welcoming atmosphere for themselves.
Our care is person-centred, meaning every service user receives support tailored to their individual needs, preferences, and routines. Whether your loved one requires residential or dementia care, our compassionate team is dedicated to promoting comfort, dignity, and a true sense of home.
We’re always happy to discuss your loved one’s specific needs and help you decide if Hollymount is the right fit, both for them and for your peace of mind.
Is there an age requirement for residency?
Our care home provides support for adults who require residential or nursing care, typically aged 65 and over.
If you’re unsure whether our home is the right fit, our team is happy to discuss your situation and guide you through the options available.
What type of memory care will service users receive?
Our team provides compassionate, person-centred support for service users living with dementia or memory-related conditions. Every individual has a personalised care plan designed around their unique needs, routines, and preferences, helping them maintain independence, dignity, and comfort.
Staff receive specialist dementia training and use gentle communication, familiar routines, and meaningful activities to create a calm and reassuring environment. Our home is designed with safety and ease of navigation in mind, supporting service users to move around confidently and comfortably.
Families are encouraged to stay involved and connected, ensuring that care feels consistent, familiar, and truly personal.
What safety measures are in place for service users?
The safety and wellbeing of our service users are always our top priority. Our care home operates with 24-hour staffing, secure access systems, and comprehensive emergency procedures to ensure peace of mind for both service users and families.
All team members are fully trained in safeguarding, first aid, and infection control, with regular refresher sessions to uphold the highest standards of care. We carry out individual risk assessments for every service user to ensure personalised care and a safe, comfortable environment.
Our home is also equipped with monitored fire safety systems, call bells in every room, Nobi smart lights, and routine health and safety checks throughout the building.
What types of rooms or floor plans are available?
Our home offers a range of comfortable room layouts to suit different preferences and care needs. We provide both private rooms and companion rooms for those who enjoy shared living, each designed to feel bright, spacious, and homely.
All rooms are fully furnished, though service users are encouraged to bring personal items or small pieces of furniture to make the space truly their own. Some rooms feature en-suite facilities, beautiful garden or park views, or adjoining options for couples who wish to stay together.
We’re always happy to arrange a personal tour so you can explore the different room styles and find the one that feels right for you.
May couples live together in the home?
Yes, couples are very welcome to live together in our home. We understand how important companionship is, especially for those who have spent a lifetime together. Wherever possible, we offer double or adjoining rooms so couples can continue sharing their daily lives while receiving the individual care and support they need.
Our team works closely with each couple to ensure their care plans reflect both shared and personal needs, helping them feel comfortable, supported, and at home.
Are pets permitted in the home?
While service users aren’t able to have their own pets living with them, we understand how much joy and comfort animals can bring. Our home has a friendly resident tortoise named Florence, who’s loved by everyone, and we regularly welcome visiting therapy animals and pets to spend time with our service users.
Families are also welcome to bring their own pets to visit at any time, there are frequently animals on-site and sometimes as part of our regular activity programme. These visits create a warm, homely atmosphere and offer plenty of smiles and cuddles for anyone who enjoys animal companionship.
What kind of meals do you provide?
Our in-house chefs prepare freshly cooked, nutritious meals every day using quality ingredients. Menus are designed to be balanced and varied, with plenty of choice at each mealtime.
We’re happy to cater for individual preferences, allergies, and dietary requirements, including vegetarian and cultural diets, so that every service user can enjoy food that feels familiar and comforting.
What activities and events are available?
At Hollymount, we believe life should be full of meaningful moments and enjoyable experiences. Our dedicated activities team organises a varied programme, including arts and crafts, music, gardening, gentle exercise, and themed events. We also arrange regular outings and visits from local performers, schools, and therapy animals.
Every activity is designed to support wellbeing, independence, and a sense of fun, and we always tailor our programme to the interests of our service users.
What are visiting hours?
We have an open-door visiting policy because we know how important family connections are. Loved ones are welcome to visit at any time, and we encourage regular involvement in daily life at Hollymount.
Families are also invited to join us for events, activities, and celebrations throughout the year, helping to keep our home atmosphere warm, inclusive, and community-focused.
Can service users personalise their rooms?
Absolutely. We encourage service users to bring personal belongings, photos, ornaments, and even small pieces of furniture to make their room feel truly their own.
Creating a familiar and comfortable space helps each person settle in quickly and feel at home from the very start.
How is medical care managed?
While we are not a nursing home, we work closely with local GPs, district nurses, and other visiting healthcare professionals to ensure consistent, coordinated care.
Medication management, health checks, and specialist visits are all carefully overseen by our trained team to ensure every service user’s health and wellbeing are fully supported.
What is included in the fees?
Our fees cover comfortable accommodation, freshly prepared meals, personal care, laundry, housekeeping, and participation in our daily activities and events.
Any additional or optional services, such as hairdressing, outings, chiropody, or specialist appointments, are discussed in advance so there are never any surprises.
